Top 10 Comics

Some of you guys know that I have a soft spot for comics. Some have asked what my favourites are .. here is a list of my current all time favourites... (pictures only, the comments will come in later when I have time..)

1. Ultimates Volume 1

Some of you may know that Marvel came out with the "Ultimate" series with a re-imagining of quite a few hot titles. The Ultimates was the re-imagination of the formation of Marvel's premier super team The Avengers, which begins with the final World War II mission of Captain America and touches on the ups and downs of the founding members, Giant Man, The Wasp, Iron Man, The Hulk, and Thor, throwing in Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury. Ya man.. Samuel L. Jackson! The writing is extremely dramatic, especially when they revealed how Captain America was discovered and his past. Great stuff! And when they introduced Thor... my god.. (no pun intended). Words fail me!

2. Uncanny X-Men: Dark Phoenix Saga

This goes back to the 80s where the X-Men were Cyclops, Angel, Wolverine, Nightcrawler, Colossus etc... and this was the issue where Jean Grey transformed into Dark Phoenix which culminated in an epic battle with the X-Men taking her down. Then they all get kidnapped by the Shiar and this was the issue where Jean Grey sacrificed her life! Stupendous 80s stuff!

3. New Teen Titans Judas Contract

During the 80s, there was a big battle between Marvel and DC. Marvel had X-Men. DC had the Teen Titans. The Teen Titans had this magnificient storyline where their arch enemy planted a mole within the titans (wah.. like Infernal Affairs!) and this mole was killed in the saga...

4. House of M

This was a recent storyline which involves the Scarlet Witch losing her control of her reality altering powers, and thru that, she creates an alternate reality world where Magneto ruled the world and mutants are all in abundance.

5. Avengers Disassembled

This was the story before House of M, and it started with Scarlet Witch losing control of her powers and she starts off killing Vision (her husband) and Hawkeye (amongst others). Thru the series, we see Dr. Strange explaining the situation and thereafter how the devastation caused by the Scarlet Witch caused the Avengers to disband.

6. New Avengers #1

Ha.. this was the start of the Avengers AFTER they disassembled! This has Wolverine, Cap America, Spider man, Spider Woman, Luke Cage, Iron Man! Amazing!

7. Crisis on Infinite Worlds

Another 80s story line from Marv Wolfman where they create a situation where the multiple parallel DC worlds are being consumed by an evil being and thru that, how the heroes of the various worlds come together to defeat him. This series sees the death of Supergirl and Flash!

8. Sin City: That Yellow Bastard

Have you guys watched Sin City? This forms the story line of Sin City! Brilliant and violent!

9. Identity Crisis

A whodunit where it starts off with the homocide of the Elongated Man's wife and thru the 7 issues, how the heroes are thrown off course tracking down the killer and you'd be surprised who it turns out to be! AND, there was a startling revelation of something that the heroes did which totally rocks the hero universe!

10. Batman: Dark Knight Returns

This was Frank Miller at his best with the storyline of how Batman, in his 50s, returns to Gotham city to clean it up!
